Jathany Riley's Introduction Video

  1. Your first ever plane ride? I remember my first. It was a long time ago. I flew from Atlanta to Miami on Cardinal Airlines. I was a senior in high school. I now have flown over 2.4 million miles on American Airlines alone.

So you want to teach college? Hmmm….

    Welcome to EDM510!

  2. Hi Jathany

Besides being a 7th grade language arts teacher at Hankins, you do so much more. How do you find the time to study for your classes here, teach, and perform all of the other duties associated with advising and being a liaison? However you do it, congrats on getting it done.

You stated that you enjoy talking on the phone and your voice sounds just like an old friend of mine that also enjoyed talking on the phone. I don't really enjoy talking on the phone, but I will talk a lot face to face. I too enjoy traveling. Prior to 2011, I traveled almost every week for business. I really enjoyed that as I flew all over the place and got to see so many new things.

You will learn a lot in EDM 510 that should help you become very technologically savvy and in turn, assist you with providing an excellent college curriculum. Good Luck!

  3. Jathany,

It sounds like you have your hands full ma'am! Seventh grade language arts has to be a challenge (I'm just now figuring out what all Language Arts entails with my second grader). I think that having a "culture committee" at the middle school level is a great thing. How many students participate? Do you have participatory functions that include educating the kids about the differences/similarities of their peers? It sounds fun and interesting.

I love to fly and vacation. Even a work vacation such as a seminar is exciting for me, it gives me the opportunity to see other cities and experience different types of American culture (very much like your committee, I'm sure).

I know that this class has pushed me out of my comfort zone. I am an exceptionally private person, and haven't really embraced social media as of yet. Although I have been pushed out of that zone, my desire for learning has overridden any discomfort as I create the blog, twitter, Skype and other software requirements for this class. I know my students will be quite familiar with these things, and I want to make every opportunity to connect with them and assist in their learning.

I too, eventually want to be a professor, and inspire future teachers as I will have (hopefully) inspired my students.
